About Michael Rasmussen
Michael was born and raised in San Jose. After graduating from Piedmont Hills High School, he attended San Jose State University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He then went to law school where he earned his Juris Doctorate from Lincoln Law School of Sacramento in 1997.
Upon receiving his law degree, he began his public service with the San Joaquin County, where he has worked for over 27 years – most of those with the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office. His prosecutorial experience spanned multiple divisions and levels of responsibility.
In 1998, Michael was hired as a Deputy District Attorney where he served as a trial attorney, over the years prosecuting homicides, robberies, sexual assaults, kidnapping cases and vehicular homicide cases. After many years trying cases, Michael was promoted to Supervising Deputy District Attorney overseeing the Main Line Felony Team and then the Homicide and Quality of Life Unit.
In 2020, he was selected as a Superior Court Commissioner where he handles a range of matters including domestic violence misdemeanors, small claims, unlawful detainers and restraining orders as well as Adult Drug Court and Family Law.
In his free time, Michael has served as a volunteer for Moot Court and Every 15 Minutes Program that educates students about the dangers of drinking and driving. Colleagues sum up his professional philosophy as “do the right thing,”, which illustrates his emphasis on fairness, common sense, and accountability.
The safety of our neighborhoods is important to me. I raised my family in our community. My daughters are Lodi Unified graduates, and my grandson graduated from LUSD in 2020. With your support, I will bring stability and common sense to our District Attorney’s Office.
"The San Joaquin County Probation Officers Association has full faith that Ron will take this responsibility seriously, and will give everything he has to make our County a safer, and better place to live."
